Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and several local communities and organizations are planning events to remember those who were lost, honor first responders and reflect on the impact of that day.

Here are several ways to commemorate the anniversary locally.

King of Prussia will hold a full day of remembrance at the King of Prussia 9/11 Memorial, 170 Allendale Road.

The observance begins at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11 with members, staff and dignitaries of the Upper Merion Township Fire and EMS Department reading the names of the victims of September 11.

A commemorative service begins at 6:15 p.m. and will include an opening prayer and remarks from Fire Department Chaplain Pastor Julie DeWerth, remarks from community leaders and elected officials, a wreath-laying ceremony and music from Irish Thunder Pipes and Drums.

The public is invited to attend both portions of the observance.

Bridgeport Borough will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at Bridgeport Memorial Park.

Community members will mark the 25th anniversary by creating rock tributes that will be placed in the park for years to come.

The event will be held near the Cpl. John H. Todd III Memorial Playground, with attendees asked to use the Hurst Street entrance.

West Conshohocken Borough will hold its annual September 11 Memorial Service as the community marks 25 years since the attacks.

The borough is inviting residents, families and neighbors to gather for a quiet evening of reflection and remembrance. The service will honor those who lost their lives, recognize the bravery and sacrifice of first responders, and reflect on the unity that followed the attacks.

The event is open to the public.

Washington Memorial Chapel at Valley Forge will hold a 25th anniversary remembrance service at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11.

The service will include prayers, the tolling of bells and a walk to the grave of Louis J. Nacke II, a local victim of Flight 93.

The event will honor those who lost their lives, remember those who responded and reflect on the resilience that emerged in the aftermath of the attacks.

Rosemont College students are being invited to take part in a special remembrance program at McKaig Nature Center in Wayne on Friday.

The program runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes a guided tour with a park ranger, a visit to the Living 9/11 Memorial, environmental stewardship activities and time for discussion and reflection.

The program is intended for Rosemont students, and space is limited.

The remembrance events continue into Saturday with the 2nd Annual Patriot Day 9/11 PT Challenge at Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge.

The event begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 and is being held in honor of SSG Marc Small, 1BN/3SFG(A).

Participants will complete three rounds of a 1,000-meter row, 50 burpees, 50 box jumps and an 800-meter run. The challenge can be scaled to different fitness levels and is open to participants age 16 and older.

Registration is $15, with proceeds supporting the Veterans Commission’s mission, programs and ongoing work.

From formal memorial services to community tributes, student programs and a physical challenge, residents have several ways to mark the 25th anniversary close to home.

For those who want to attend, the King of Prussia, Bridgeport and Washington Memorial Chapel observances are all scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11, with the PT Challenge following Saturday morning.
