More than $1.3 million in state grant funding has been awarded to three projects in and around the Upper Merion Area, including improvements in Bridgeport and Upper Merion Township and continued development of the Valley Forge Connector Trail.
State Rep. Tim Briggs announced the awards Thursday as part of more than $1.77 million in Local Share Account grants awarded across the 149th Legislative District in partnership with state Sen. Amanda Cappelletti.
Locally, the awards include:
$508,692 to Bridgeport Borough for redevelopment of the parking lot at 440 Mill Street.
$450,000 to Montgomery County for Segment 5 of the Valley Forge Connector Trail.
$348,550 to Upper Merion Township for renovations to its public works facility.
Together, those three awards total $1,307,242.
Bridgeport parking lot redevelopment
Bridgeport received the largest of the three local awards, with $508,692 designated for redevelopment of the parking lot at 440 Mill Street.
The announcement does not provide additional details about the planned improvements or a construction timeline.

Valley Forge Connector Trail
Montgomery County received $450,000 for Segment 5 of the Valley Forge Connector Trail.
The grant adds funding to an ongoing effort to improve pedestrian and trail connections in the Valley Forge area. The announcement does not specify exactly what work will be completed with this particular award.
Upper Merion public works facility
Upper Merion Township was awarded $348,550 for renovations to its public works facility.
The announcement describes the funding as supporting improvements to the facility used by township public works employees but does not provide additional information about the scope or timing of the renovations.

Where the money comes from
The grants come through Pennsylvania’s statewide Local Share Account program, which distributes gaming revenue through the Commonwealth Financing Authority for projects considered to be in the public interest.
Counties, municipalities, municipal authorities and several other types of public entities are eligible to apply for the funding.
Two additional grants announced Thursday went to projects in Ardmore and along the City Avenue corridor, bringing the full amount awarded across Briggs’ legislative district to more than $1.77 million.
