Upper Merion Planning Commission Recommends Denial of Proposed Data Center Development
After a lengthy public meeting Tuesday evening at Upper Merion Area Middle School, the Upper Merion Township Planning Commission voted to recommend that the Board of Supervisors deny the preliminary land development plans for the proposed hyperscale data center project.
The proposal, submitted by local developer Brian O'Neill, calls for the construction of seven hyperscale data center buildings and associated infrastructure on property near Swedeland Road and River Road.
Tuesday's vote followed hours of public comment, with many residents attending the meeting to voice concerns about the project. The Planning Commission's recommendation is advisory only and does not represent the final decision on the application.
The proposal now moves to the Upper Merion Board of Supervisors, which will make the final determination after additional public meetings.

Tuesday, August 12 – Planning Commission meeting
Wednesday, August 13 – Board of Supervisors meeting, where the Board is expected to consider the proposal
