LOCAL NEWS 📰

Most clicked event/story from last week 🏆…

It seems it will always be true that any real estate news I share receives the most clicks (nearly 200 clicks last week). It feels safe to say the Upper Merion Area real estate market is just fine (for now). The event drawing the most interest last week was the Goodwill Donation Drive at Good Shepherd.

Eataly sets official open date. 🍷

I take all “opening day” announcements with a grain of salt around here (thanks 202). But, Eataly officially set its open date as Thursday, October 2nd at 3 p.m.

Eataly will be a new 21,000-square-foot Italian marketplace, opening on the ground floor of the King of Prussia Mall, in the space formerly occupied by Rite Aid and Forever 21. The marketplace will feature a full-service sit-down restaurant called "La Pizza & La Pasta," offering Neapolitan-style pizza and pasta with both indoor and outdoor seating. Additionally, it will include quick-service counters, a wine shop, and a retail market selling a variety of imported Italian goods like fresh pasta and olive oil.

Upper Merion Assistant Superintendent Dr. Susan Silver to Retire After 16 Years 📩

September 19, 2025

Dear Upper Merion Area School District Community,

It’s with great appreciation and gratitude that I am writing to share the news that, after 16 years of dedicated and impactful service in Upper Merion, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Susan Silver will be retiring this January.

Throughout her tenure in the district, Dr. Silver has held several leadership roles, including Elementary Principal and Director of Curriculum. As we reflect on her service, I am particularly grateful for her dedication, vision, and passion. Dr. Silver has had a significant impact on our school community, consistently emphasizing the importance of bringing people together in pursuit of our shared mission to serve students.

Dr. Silver is particularly proud of her work in advancing student achievement, strengthening cultural awareness throughout our district, fostering collaboration, and implementing professional development programs to enhance our instructional practices.

I am developing a plan to appoint an interim Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction who will provide leadership during this transition. In the coming months, the District will launch a search for the next Assistant Superintendent who will continue to support high-quality curriculum and instruction, encourage innovation, and ensure that cultural awareness, belonging, and collaboration remain at the heart of our work.

On behalf of the entire Upper Merion Area School District community, I want to thank Dr. Silver for her 16 years of dedicated leadership and extend our appreciation for her commitment to our district. Please join me in celebrating her impactful career and wishing her joy and fulfillment in retirement.

With thanks,

Tamara Thomas Smith
Superintendent of Schools
