Good Morning, Upper Merion Area π
Itβs officially official. Itβs fall. Know how I know? I wore sweatpants to walk my dog, Murray, yesterday. Not to mention, spending my weekends in Jersey watching softball π₯ is a good indicator as well. While I love watching my daughter do what she loves, I miss a lot of the awesome local events. I was going to ask you folks to take some pics for me to share, but I think I have a better idea. Here it is! Let me know what you think π
Ok, letβs get to the newsletter!
God Bless,

LOCALLY
2025 Upper Merion Area School District School Board βraceβ:
This fallβs Upper Merion Area School Board race includes four seats. Region 1, Region 2, Region 3, and one at-large position. Only Region 3 is contested. The other three seats will likely be filled by candidates running unopposed and (some) who cross-filed, meaning they appeared on both the Democratic and Republican primary ballots, and won. This seems to be confusing quite a few folks locally, and rightfully so. Read more about βcross filingβ in our Safety and Civics section below.
25 Pa. Stat. Β§ 2936 - Pennsylvaniaβs election law allows school board candidates to do this, and in this case, both successful cross-filers are registered Democrats who also won the Republican primaries. Thatβs why on Novemberβs sample ballots, youβll see two names listed with both a βDβ and an βRβ beside them. If Iβm understanding correctly, the official ballots will have no party affiliation next to candidates who win both primaries. Click Here to read more about running for a school board position.

Shapiro Says βHands Off Our Guardβ in Fight Over Trumpβs Deployment Orders:
Governor Josh Shapiro filed a multistate amicus brief opposing President Trumpβs recent National Guard deployments to U.S. cities without governorsβ consent. He argues such actions βerode trustβ in civilian control and violate statesβ rights. Shapiro emphasized that the Pennsylvania National Guard is under his command. Twenty states plus D.C. joined the brief, saying the deployments are unconstitutional and dangerous. Read the full story here.
